The Sobriety Wall
Slogans are wisdom written in shorthand

Why not use slogans to start a discussion in your group?
"Remember When..."

I use this when thoughts of drinking again come into my mind,

I remember when... the hangovers, the shame, guilt and remorse, the self hatred, the depression, the trouble, accidents and the like.   T.M.
"Apothegms to thinking minds are the seeds from which spring vast fields of new thought, that may be further cultivated, beautified, and enlarged". James Ramsey

The many hundreds of thousands of recovering people who have passed through meetings have left behind them many great slogans of sobriety. These slogans are, in fact, sobriety tools. They are the distilled (excuse the pun) experiences of recovering people in a snappy and workable form. They should be available for all in recovery.
A word of warning!
Slogans should not be used as "thought-stopping clichés". They are only to help particular situations and should not be substituted for greater awareness and free-thought.

Easy does it

First things first

Live and let live

One day at time

Kiss---keep it simple stupid

This too shall pass

If it works.........don't fix it

Sobriety is a journey ..........not a destination

Poor me.....poor me...... pour me another drink

To thine own self be true

Live in the NOW

Nothing is so bad, a drink won't make it worse

Be part of the solution, not the problem

Keep an open mind

willingness is the key

Go for it

Do it sober

Let it begin with me

Just for today

Alcoholism is an equal opportunity destroyer

You are not alone

Make use of the telephone therapy

Stay sober for yourself

The Chinese character for crisis is a combination of two words -- danger and opportunity.

Look for similarities rather than differences

Remember that alcoholism is incurable, progressive, and fatal

Try not to place conditions on your sobriety

When all else fails, follow directions

Count your blessings

Share your happiness

Respect the anonymity of others

Share your pain

Let go of old ideas

Try to replace guilt with gratitude

Change is a process, not an event

Sick and tired of being
sick and tired

It's the first drink that gets you drunk

Take what you can use and leave the rest

Help is only a phone call away

One drink is too many and thousand not enough

Anger is but one letter away from danger

Courage to change

Easy does it, but do it

Bring the body and the mind will follow

Fear is the darkroom where negatives are developed

The first step in overcoming mistakes is to admit them

Formula for failure: try to please everyone

Sorrow is looking back, worry is looking around

A journey of a 1,000 miles begins with the first step

Humility is our acceptance of ourselves

We're responsible for the effort not the outcome

This is a selfish program

Keep your sobriety first to make it last

Minds are like parachutes----they won't work unless they're open

If you turn it over and don't let go of it, you will be upside down.

FEAR =
Frustration
Ego,
Anxiety,
Resentment

When a person tries to control their drinking they have already lost control

You are not required to like  to DO IT

The only thing we take from this world when we leave is what we gave away

Time wasted in getting even can never be used in getting ahead

Sobriety delivers everything alcohol promised

HOW =
Honesty,
Open-mindedness  Willingness

Everyday is a gift that is why we call it the present

If you find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn't lead anywhere

Every recovery from alcoholism began with one sober hour

Each and every alcoholic----sober or not----teaches us some valuable lessons about ourselves and recovery

Don't take yourself so damn seriously!!!!!!!

There are two days in every week which we have no control over----yesterday and tomorrow .today is the only day we can change.

It is not the experience if today that drives people mad----it is the remorse or bitterness for something which happened yesterday and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.

Depression is anger toward inward

Serenity is not freedom from the  storm but peace amid the storm

The (Secular) Serenity Prayer
Give us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

If you have any slogans of your please send them in
